Becoming the best version of myself…
I had always been bigger than most girls my age growing up, even my best friend was stick thin. I didn’t have a lot of support throughout middle and high school when it came to exercise, and was more encouraged by those around me to work at a job rather than be healthy, and active. So I quit ALL the sports I was in. Basketball, Tennis, Track, Softball, Volleyball, and even my favorite, competitive power lifting, in favor of working as a waitress at a pizza joint. So when I began my journey to a healthier lifestyle, my constant thoughts were “you’re going to quit, you always do” or “you’ve always been fat, your whole family is fat, you will always be fat” One of the exercises made me address these thoughts and why I was having them. What a huge change this made in my attitude. Now, instead of “you’re going to quit” I tell myself “look at you! YOU HAVEN’T QUIT!!!” and instead of “you’ve always been fat, your whole family is fat, you will always be fat” I tell myself “you are fit, your family is not your problem, and you will continue to become more fit!!” I can honestly say this program has reaffirmed my goals to me, has helped me strive to better not only my physical health, but my mental health, and has helped me want to become the best version of myself. This is a tool that I will use for the rest of my life. It’s helped me remember that I can, and will be a life long learner, and that my journey to health is a lifestyle that is so very worth living.

The most important thing I learned from Ranell’s 7-day course is that nothing is out of my control; if there is a will there is a way. I have had a lot of sadness and loss; as well as trauma from a past abusive relationship; I had it in the back of my head that just when things were starting to look up for me that something always bad would happen, and that is just how my life would always be. Ranell taught me to look beyond this, to throw it away, to turn those negative thoughts into positive ones. I can control my future, it is possible, you just have to take it in baby steps; maybe with just one goal at a time. I also looked at my stress triggers that cause me to crash in my fitness and personal life goals; how can I stop the panic and feelings of guilt and work through them with a plan. If anything just even with one day plan. I also learned to stop trying to do it all as a mom with one in college and two at home. I would feel overwhelmed feeling like I need to put my family first and I wasn’t taking care of myself, physically or mentally like I needed to be. Ranell taught me that as a member of that family, I matter too. If I’m not taking care of myself, how will I be there for everyone else. They need to be there for me too. My personal goal was allowing my family to help out more, stop trying to control everything and that is allowing me time to pursue my fitness and personal growth goals. I’m 44 years old and at this age I still have a lot to learn and this course helped me realize a lot of ways I was sabotaging my own goals and how to move forward in a positive way where I feel like I’m actually getting somewhere finally. Some think that the most important thing you put in your body is food. I have learned this is not correct the MOST important things are thoughts. They can sabotage you before you even get to the grocery. They can stop you in your tracks right before you hit that goal. We all know that we will be rolling, right along on schedule, to hit whatever goal we have set and then we just stop. We start eating crappie again, we don’t go for that run, we don’t do that important positive thing, and then we slide backward. This course is designed to help that cycle stop!
